The poor monoglot -Tough break being a native English speaker
Once upon time there was a Bolognese cardinal who spoke so many languages he beat the mythical Lord Byron during a swearing contest: in all the languages of the world. These days, if you want to work and go up in the world you have to speak at least one: English. An undeniable advantage if you’re born in an English-speaking country. But is this really true?
